A red, tree-like figure spreads across a dark ground, its branches picked out in touches of blue and burnt orange that catch the light like embers. The paint is built up thickly at the core and thins toward the edges, giving the whole piece a sense of something growing outward from a single point. Painted on wood, unframed, one of a kind, and includes a glimpse of the piece taking shape on the artist's own worktable.
